Frequently Asked Questions
Injectables: Neurotoxins (Botox®, Xeomin®, Dysport®)
What are neurotoxins, and what do they treat?
Neurotoxins, including Botox®, Xeomin®, and Dysport®, are FDA-approved injectable medications that temporarily relax specific facial muscles to reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles. These are wrinkles that form from repetitive facial movements such as smiling, squinting, or frowning. Common treatment areas include forehead lines, frown lines (the "11s" between the brows), crow's feet around the eyes, and eyebrow lifting.
What is the difference between Botox®, Xeomin®, and Dysport®?
All three products are botulinum toxin type A formulations that work by temporarily blocking nerve signals to targeted muscles. The key differences lie in their formulation, manufacturer, and dosing. Botox® is the standard reference. Xeomin® is dosed approximately 1:1 with Botox® but has no accessory proteins. Dysport® spreads slightly more and requires approximately 2.5 to 3 units per 1 unit of Botox®. Our expert injectors will help you select the product best suited to your goals and anatomy.
How much neurotoxin will I need?
Because every person's facial structure and muscle strength differ, it is difficult to recommend a specific amount without a consultation. As a general reference, frown lines typically require 10–25 units of Botox® (or 30–75 units of Dysport®), forehead lines require 10–30 units of Botox®, and crow's feet require 5–15 units of Botox® per side.
When will I see results from neurotoxin injections?
Most clients begin to notice results within 3 to 7 days after treatment, with full effects visible at approximately 10 to 14 days. We ask that you wait the full two weeks before returning for any touch-up or adjustment.
How long do neurotoxin results last?
Results typically last 3 to 4 months, after which the muscle activity gradually returns. With regular maintenance treatments, many clients find that their results last longer over time as the muscles become conditioned to relaxing.
Am I too young to start Botox®?
There is no strict minimum age for neurotoxin treatments in adults. Many clients in their 20s and 30s use Botox® as a preventive measure to slow the formation of wrinkles before they become deeply set. It is also used in younger clients for facial shaping (such as the masseter area) or for relief from TMJ-related muscle tension.
Is bruising after Botox® normal?
Bruising is a common and expected possibility with any injectable treatment, as the needle can puncture small blood vessels. Not everyone experiences bruising, and when it does occur, it is typically mild and resolves within a few days. To minimize your risk, avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements (such as aspirin, ibuprofen, Aleve, fish oil, and Vitamin E) for several days before your appointment.
What should I avoid after a neurotoxin treatment?
To ensure the best results and minimize side effects, do not lie down for at least 4 hours after treatment. Avoid rubbing or touching the treated area for 72 hours. Skip strenuous exercise for 24 hours. Avoid heat exposure (hot baths, saunas, tanning beds) for 24 to 48 hours, and do not consume alcohol for 24 hours post-treatment.
Injectables: Dermal Fillers
What are dermal fillers, and what can they treat?
Dermal fillers are injectable substances that add volume, smooth deep lines, and enhance facial contours. Unlike neurotoxins, fillers do not affect muscle movement. They are ideal for restoring lost volume in the cheeks, defining the jawline, enhancing the lips, smoothing nasolabial folds (smile lines), treating marionette lines, and rejuvenating the under-eye area.
What filler brands do you use?
We offer a curated selection of leading filler brands, each designed for specific areas and goals. This includes RHA Kiss and Restylane® Kysse for the lips, Juvederm® Voluma for the cheeks and jawline, standard Juvederm® for general facial volume, and Sculptra® for facial volume and collagen stimulation.
How soon will I see results from dermal fillers?
Filler results are immediate. You will notice a difference right after your appointment. However, some mild swelling and bruising may occur in the first few days. Most clients find that their filler looks its best approximately two weeks after treatment, once any swelling has fully resolved.
How long do fillers last?
The longevity of fillers depends on the product used, the area treated, and individual metabolism. In general, lip fillers typically last 6 to 12 months. Cheek and jawline fillers can last 12 to 24 months. Sculptra® stimulates collagen production and results can last up to 2 years.
Can fillers be reversed?
Hyaluronic acid-based fillers (such as Juvederm® and Restylane®) can be dissolved using an enzyme called hyaluronidase if a client is unhappy with results or experiences a complication. Sculptra® and other non-HA fillers cannot be reversed. Our team will discuss all options with you during your consultation.
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)
What is Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)?
As we age, the body's natural production of hormones, including estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, declines. This decline can cause a wide range of symptoms that affect quality of life, including fatigue, weight gain, mood changes, brain fog, decreased libido, hot flashes, and sleep disturbances. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) restores hormonal balance using carefully dosed medications to alleviate these symptoms and improve overall vitality.
What HRT services do you offer?
We offer personalized HRT programs for both men and women. This includes Testosterone Therapy for men to address fatigue, low libido, muscle loss, and mood changes. For women, we offer Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) to address menopause symptoms. We also provide BIOTE Nutraceuticals, which are physician-grade supplements to support hormonal health.
What is Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)?
Bioidentical hormones are derived from plant sources and are chemically identical to the hormones naturally produced by the human body. BHRT is often preferred by patients who want a more natural approach to hormone therapy. Our BHRT programs are customized based on comprehensive lab work and symptom assessment.
How do I get started with HRT?
Your HRT journey begins with a comprehensive consultation and laboratory testing to assess your current hormone levels. Based on your lab results and the symptoms you are experiencing, Holly Staples, NP, will design a personalized treatment plan tailored to your body's specific needs. Follow-up appointments and lab monitoring are conducted regularly to ensure your treatment remains safe and effective.
What are the signs that I might need HRT?
Common signs of hormonal imbalance that may benefit from HRT include persistent fatigue or low energy despite adequate sleep, unexplained weight gain (particularly around the abdomen), decreased libido or sexual dysfunction, mood swings, irritability, anxiety, or depression. Other signs include brain fog, hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disturbances in women, and loss of muscle mass or strength in men.
Medical Weight Loss (GLP-1 Injections)
What are GLP-1 weight loss injections?
GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonists are a class of medications that mimic a naturally occurring hormone in the body. They work by signaling the brain to feel full sooner, slowing stomach emptying, and reducing appetite. The result is a natural reduction in caloric intake that supports sustainable weight loss. We offer two GLP-1 medications: Semaglutide and Tirzepatide.
Am I a candidate for medical weight loss injections?
Your weight loss consultation is complimentary. During this appointment, our Nurse Practitioner will review your medical history, current medications, BMI, and weight loss goals to determine if GLP-1 therapy is appropriate for you. Patients with a personal or family history of thyroid cancer or certain other conditions may not be candidates.
How long does it take to see results from GLP-1 injections?
Most patients begin to notice changes in appetite and food cravings within the first few weeks. Significant weight loss typically becomes noticeable after 2 to 3 months of consistent use. Results are enhanced when combined with a healthy diet and regular physical activity.
What are the potential side effects of GLP-1 medications?
The most common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation, particularly during the initial weeks as your body adjusts to the medication. These side effects are typically mild and improve over time. Our medical team will monitor your progress and adjust your dosage as needed to minimize discomfort.
Do I need to make lifestyle changes while on GLP-1 medications?
Yes. For best results, we encourage clients to maintain a balanced, nutritious diet and engage in regular physical activity while on GLP-1 therapy. These lifestyle habits maximize the medication's benefits and support long-term weight management.
Microneedling
What is microneedling?
Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that uses fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This stimulates the body's natural healing response, triggering the production of new collagen and elastin. The result is smoother, firmer skin with improved texture, reduced scars, and a more youthful appearance.
What types of microneedling do you offer?
We offer several microneedling options to suit different needs and goals. This includes Standard Microneedling for classic collagen-induction therapy, and PRP Microneedling which combines microneedling with Platelet-Rich Plasma for enhanced regeneration. We also offer Vivace™ RF Microneedling, which combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy for deeper skin remodeling and tightening.
Does microneedling hurt?
The sensation is often described as light sandpaper moving across the skin. To ensure your comfort, we apply a topical numbing cream approximately 30 minutes before your treatment. Most clients find the procedure very tolerable.
How many microneedling sessions do I need?
For optimal results, we recommend a series of 3 sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Gradual improvements in skin texture, tone, and firmness will continue to develop over the following weeks and months as collagen production increases.
How much downtime should I expect after microneedling?
Downtime is generally minimal. You can expect 24 to 72 hours of mild redness and slight swelling, similar to a mild sunburn. Your skin may also feel slightly tight or dry during the first few days of healing. We will provide you with specific aftercare instructions to ensure optimal healing and results.
